As of this writing, we will not be offering Pastured Poultry for sale in 2012. The Georgia Department of Agriculture has published the SMALL POULTRY/PASTURE POULTRY GUIDELINES which you can read here SmallPoultryGuidelinesFINAL. We are currently working with various folks and supporters to see if anything can be done about modifying these guidelines to make it affordable for small farmers like us to be able to continue to raise pastured poultry for sale. These guidelines are directed at farmers who raise less that 1000 birds in a year. Last year we raised approximately 300 or so birds, and this year we were actually going to do less, as we found that our pasture space really could not support that many birds. If you read the guidelines, you can see that they seem to be a little too much and too expensive for someone to raise only 300 or so birds. Thank you for your support, and if you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment. Also, if you want to write or speak to your congressman about this issue, please do so. We will provide updates if any progress is made on this.
